Day 117 - TRADITION

In our family we have many traditions brought from past family traditions but one that I started several years ago was to make a Chocolate roulade from Delia Smith's cookery book, for an alterative to Christmas pudding and mincepies on Christmas Day. My daughter in law who loves anything choc then asked me to make one for her the following year. Not to be outdone my step daughter then asked me too the following year and I now make 4 for each family, one for us and last year my friend Carol also had one!!
Manage to do this beefore closing the computer, bye xx

Day 116 - POWERFUL

Today hasn't been a good day. My daughter in law's father died last night just a month after her Aunt died, so she needed quite a lot of support instead of us packing to go away tomorrow!
I have finally packed and we are all ready for a very wet and maybe cold holiday in the lakes!!
The word for a photo today was POWERFUL, I wanted to take a photo of an electricity pylon that I knew we would pass when we went out pm but DH wizzed past it!! As we stopped at a garage on the way home I saw this and although I am not sure what it is it looks pretty impressive and powerful object, is it for communication? Of course as I am uploading I realised that a light bulb would have been a good subject for powerful!!

I probably won't be able to get online to upload again until after the bank holiday but I will be taking a photo each day for our daily word.
Thank you Suzie for doing this, we are nearly a third of the way through our year already!!!

Day 114 - CROSS

Today I did my church needlework club for the first time for several weeks and really enjoyed it. The lady who runs it had this celtic cross attached to her watch on a chain, you can see the back of the watch. Isn't it beautiful

Day 113 - SYMBOLIC

I really will have to take some time to sort blogger out. I hated Google chrome but it looks as if I will have to put it back on my computer to be able to see everything properly!!
A lovely sunny day but spent, church sewing (repairs) and getting a meal ready for one of our family this teatime
I found a selection of jewellery symbols I wear to show I am a Christian. The 2 fish earrings and the fish pin story can be found here for those who do not want to read the link, the 2 earrings have Greek symbols which are shaped as a fish as the Greek word for Fish is ICHTHYS and it means Jesus Christ, God's Son, Saviour

Day 111 - FLAG

A lovely sunny day and our decorator is on his final day with us today. I spent the morning driving with some desserts I had made for May 7th to a friends freezer, looking for flags flying!! During my journey I had began to think about all the union jacks in B&Q that I had spied yesterday or whether I should take a photo of a flagstone :)
Then I remembered seeing this flag flying next door to my friend's bungalow so went round and found it!
Our suite finally arrived pm and look what I found attached to the suite LOL a picture of a union jack flag

and here is our room complete!! A very bold 'flowery' suite but we like it with the curtains and carpet.....we think!!!

Off out tonight for a meal with friends, so no chance to try out the furniture :(

and this is the lounge end, same curtains in sunshine and shade!

We have had the same material used for the hall curtains

Cannot wait for the suite to arrive tomorrow !!
Here is my 'SMALL' photo, a label for scrapping that I have never used yet!

Thank you Anne for making me correct the day LOL!!

Day 109 - ENTRANCE

Here I am going into our kitchen this morning! Our decorator arrived back yesterday and having done the doors, he has arrived at our kitchen, removed some tiles and filled in all the cracks as well as taking off a layer of tiles ready for new ones in June!!

Thought we would have a month before the kitchen but Simon has arrived as this week's job was an outside job and we said yes incase he didn't come at the end of May!

Day 108 - BOLD

A little play with Picasa today for my BOLD photo!
DGD (Xanthe )day today and the decorator returned to do door frames and doors on the inside to rooms from hall since he had 4 spare days. The job he was going to do was an outside job and this am it was cold windy and very wet! The afternoon brightened up!

Tomorrow he is going to do our kitchen ceiling and walls in preparation for new doors make over since our 3 yr old ones were faulty. This will happen in June and is another story!!

Day 107 - TREE AGAIN!

What a strange day. I woke very tired, I still hadn't recovered from yesterday!
I went to meet DD and my friend Carol for breakfast and then shopping in Sainsburys.
Rushed home to take carpet bits to be whipped for patio door and front door and then home to shower and get ready for D in Law's Auntie's funeral. We finally left the wake at 3pm and had several calls on route to home. The lady making the curtains came to re measure, (they will be hung on Thursday and then the furniture shop rang with good news, our furniture will be delivered on Friday so a real home by the weekend!!
We then jad a phonecall from DIL to say her DDad who is very poorly in hospital had had a stroke during the funeral (all phones switched off) so they came after visiting the hospital and we finally ate at 7pm.
Then our decorator rang to say could he return for the rest of the week to finish all the doors and frames on the otherside of all the decorated doors and also decorate our kitchen before we have new make over once again...that is another story as our doors 3yrs old have blown!

I am about to go to bed after posting my photo for today, a collage of today and the same tree in Feb. As you can see the tree looks very much the same but the ground and foliage around has flourished and flowered!!
A close up of the 'cropped' willow tree shows that the leaves are slowly coming!

Sorry I haven't commented on your blogs ladies but promise tomorrow night I will! (after our granddaughter day!!

Day 106 - ALIVE and Ally Pally

I am home from a very long day out. I went to Ally Pally to the Big Stamp and Scrapbooking Show. I left home at 6.30am with my friend Carol and we arrived home at 8pm tonight!
At the Show I met Diane, one of my team from UKS forum IRL. It was good to see her (a)LIVE!!
At 3pm Carol and I had had enough so we collapsed in the bar with a good bottle of Merlot to await our mini coach

and to stroke all the lovely stash we had each bought, this was just my stash...it was a big spend especially in Distressed Inks (thanks to a retreat a few weeks ago when we had a day learning distressing techniques)

Do you like my new bag I also bought?

Day 105 - COILED

My photo for today a coiled ribbon from a balloon!

Carpet Down!!

What a busy day we had after our carpet was laid yesterday! We went to our friends 70th birthday luncheon and had a lovely meal with great company
and as promised yesterday here are the photos of before, during and after the carpet
had been laid

The carpet has been delivered and the room awaits!

and the hall, stairs, landing and under the stairs and in the cupboard at the top of the stairs

This was our bathroom!

Our kitchen

Carpet about to be unwrapped!

Down goes the underlay!!

Carpet being unrolled

Landing underlay nearly done

Finshing laying the carpet downstairs

Carpeted at last but still no suite or curtains!

Carpeted everywhere! One of our cats is looking very happy!!

Day 104 - PETAL

It is late and I have just got in after an excellent but expensive meal in an Italian restaurant in Rye with friends and realised I hadn't posted todays photo. I am afraid that I have cheated and found some photos of flowers in Picasa. Like Anne with her trees and clouds I am the same with flowers and skies LOL! I particularly like this one and have cropped it to just show 1 petal
Today has been tiring but we are now almost at the end of the tunnel as our carpet man came today to lay our carpets instead of tomorrow. We were in such a mess all day and had to leave him to lock up as we had to pick up our friends at 6.30. We have come home to such a lovely sight of carpet in the hall and lounge, it feels so warm and welcoming. It was 3 months this weekend when we found the leak!
Tomorrow I will show you some photos of the carpet being laid

Day 103- SHOCKING

When I got todays word I realised that a lot of things shock me, must be my age LOL!
Here is my list
1) dog poo on the pavements and grass in public places
2) rubbish thrown down by people on the pavement and roads
3) The foul and unnecessary language used by young and old in aggression and in every day speech
4) some programmes totally unsuitable for viewing at peek times or at any time!
5) the lack of respect for others whether people are young or old

I could continue but this list is enough!
So today I thought my photo would be easy as we always have dog poo on our pavement outside our house and definitely rubbish, cans bottles and food wrappers as we live just the right distance from a corner shop.
So out I went with my camera to find only dog poo on the grass and no rubbish as the local council have done a cleanup this week, bless them

Don't you just hate seeing this when it is so easy to pick up with a bag and dispose of it in a dog bin which is just across the road from this grass!

Winkle up and my DIL's blog

This is the new statue at Winkle Island in the Old Town. The Winkle Club is a charitable organisation in Hastings that our Queen is a member and so was Winston Churchill

and this is my DIL's new blog, she makes fantastic bunting. click on the link and see what she makes

Day 102 - ELEGANT

Well I am definitely not elegant!! When I first went to SW and lost 4st in weight in 2009 I tried on my wedding dress from 1985 and could JUST get in it, did I feel elegant, no not really!!

Now I always think formal weddings are elegant and here is my very close friend Ann at her son's wedding in 2008. She has always been elegant every day when she was at work (a teacher) going out or is at home. Here she is with me...I had no hat or jacket LOL!! OK she was the grooms Mother :)

Today it rained on and off all day. I have spent the day dyeing my black summer clothes a strong black again!!

DH came home and wanted to go out. I had seen on local TV about our new 'Winkle up statue in our Old Town and we went to see it. First I saw this boat on a roof top!

Then our local net huts displaying the sign that locals have been saying "NO to Gerwood" the new Art Centre that HAS been built! Here is the new building

The Winkle Island statue seems to have disappeared from my blog LOL!!

Day 101 - CLUTTER!

This was any easy photo today as we have plenty of clutter upstairs from our rooms and hall downstairs!! All this is in our spare bedroom until after Saturday when we get the carpets laid.
Glad to do this early today as we have our DGC coming for the day as it is still the Easter school holidays!

Day 100 - GENTLE

Wow day 100 has arrived!! Easter Mon Bank Holiday and cold wet and windy here in SE England though I think it is the same everywhere which is a shame for those having a weekend or day break.
DH and I walked into town today. I have decided I need to walk daily to get ready for our holiday in the lakes. I am not a walker so I am not very fit after the winter months at home LOL!! This pm I have been to hospital to visit someone and returned to find Peter had taken over my craft room and is tyeing flies!!

This then brought me to the word for a photo today. I had looked it up earlier to find GENTLE can be a noun and a verb. There were a lot of meanings and I learnt something new!

Meanings: 1) honourable, belonging to or fit for a class of gentlemen, well born.

2) generous, noble, courteous.

3) tame, quiet, angling or other activity of patience, easily managed moderate, kind, mild, tender.

4) Maggot, larva of meat fly or blue bottle used as fishing bait

5) make gentle, break in gently

So as you can see I have the photo for GENTLE, a maggot artificial fly that Peter has already made and....who is also a 'gentle' man (kind, quiet and patient as fishermen are!!)

The first fly photo, he was making was a diawl bach (welsh fly???!!)

Easter Sunday Day 99 - LOTS AND LOTS!

A dull and cold Easter Sunday here and apart from church am I haven't been out and instead scrapped and did the UKS WC. I peaceful and happy afternoon.
Lots and lots could have been several things, but something we don't normally have in the house are sweets but DD bought me lots of jelly beans yesterday instead of chocolate, she knows I love them. Here they are waiting to be eaten LOL!!

Saturday, 7 April 2012

Day 98 - GIRLY

Well today's word 'girly' just had to be DGD Xanthe! As our youngest and a girl she really adores dolls and soft toys and they are all her 'babies' LOL! Never known such a girly girl having had 2 sons !
Easter Sat has been an at home day and really not doing much but avoiding our lounge and upstairs and playing on the computer and doing a bit of scrapping, a lovely lazy day!

Here we look at just some of the ways our church is involved in proclaiming the Gospel in word and deed both here in Hastings and "to the endsof the earth" often working with those of other fellowships
